“Bluegrass music undoubtedly has a robust standard repertoire. Songs that Flatt and Scruggs, Jimmy Martin, and Ola Belle Reed wrote half a century ago are still played from private jams to the Ryman auditorium—and everywhere between. Some songs have gotten better with age, with modern artists often completely changing the character of tunes and songs that were written decades before they were even born. That’s why I made this playlist of bluegrass “double plays,” with twin versions of songs from “How Mountain Girls Can Love” to “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” played by the song’s pioneer and a newer, modern interpretation.
Very nice pairings of old and new bluegrass favorites!
