Annual Grant Awarded to HVBA

We want to issue a profound “thank you” to a local New York-based family foundation for their donation to the Hudson Valley Bluegrass Association. This donation, which will be bestowed to the HVBA annually, will greatly expand our ability to conduct our mission.

This donation was made to us late last year with no stipulations—only that it be used in pursuit of our mission to promote bluegrass and related acoustic music in the Hudson Valley through jam sessions, concerts, and educational programs. While plans for using this sum are still being discussed by the HVBA board, it’s looking increasingly likely that rejuvenating our “Bluegrass in the Schools” series is the first action we will take—using the funding to pay educators and performers for their time and expertise in presenting an educational program about bluegrass music at grade schools throughout the Hudson Valley.

Other potential uses for this funding include offering additional compensation to our performers, purchasing ads to spread the word about our concerts and programmatic offerings, and bringing in professional musicians and bands to host master classes and workshops for HVBA members. What’s clear is that this funding will be a windfall for an organization like ours—and we could not be more thankful for this incredible donation!

If you too would like to support the HVBA, you can join as a member if you haven’t already.

David Chernack

David Chernack is a fiddler, mandolinist, and guitarist from the Hudson Valley. Trained as a classical violist, David found out about bluegrass music in high school and despite his best efforts has been unable to kick the habit in adulthood. He picked up mandolin and guitar in college in Boston, where he studied environmental science and music. While not at his day job or pickin' 'grass, David also enjoys birdwatching and wrenching on cars.
