I really like this band. The voices are just perfect, and the harmonies soar. The instrumental backup and breaks are very tastefully done, full of emotion, stick to the melody, and add the right amount of zip. Saying great things about them is like sending coals to New Castle though, as they won 8 IBM awards in 2008, (Entertainer of the Year, Vocal Group, Male Vocalist (Jamie), Album of the Year, Gospel Recorded Performance, Recorded Event of the Year, Emerging Artist of the Year). Truly amazing, but wait – they have been nominated for 9 SPBGMA awards for 2009.
“When I Cross Over”
Recently at Grey Fox I’ve seen both performers with their former bands. Jamie Dailey played guitar and sang harmony for Doyle Lawson. Darren Vincent played guitar and sang harmony for Ricky Skaggs in Kentucky Thunder. I remember thinking both had excellent voices, and then was thrilled to hear they formed a band together. They had good teachers in these former bands, and listened well. Rounding out the current band is Jeff Parker on mandolin, Joe Dean on banjo, and Adam Haynes on fiddle.
I look forward to future releases by these guys. For anyone going to Joe Val this year, they are scheduled to play on Sunday Feb. 15th.
