A Rare Summer Treat from the HVBA!
It’s not often that the Hudson Valley Bluegrass Association presents a concert during the summer—but when an opportunity this special comes along, we simply can’t say no. That’s why we’re thrilled to host an exclusive house concert featuring two of the finest roots musicians in America: Mike Compton and Joe Newberry.
This unique event will take place on Friday evening, August 15, 2025 at 7:00 PM, in a cozy home setting with room for just 30 lucky guests.
About the Artists
Mike Compton is a true master of the mandolin and a leading authority on old-time and Southern musical traditions. His playing and singing have an authenticity that bridges the past and present—raw, soulful, and unforgettable. He’s performed with the likes of Elvis Costello, Sting, John Hartford, and T-Bone Burnett, bringing his singular sound to audiences across genres and generations.
Joe Newberry is a world-renowned clawhammer banjo player, a powerful guitarist and vocalist, and an award-winning songwriter. You may know his work from the Gibson Brothers’ IBMA-winning “Singing As We Rise” or his “Song of the Year” collaboration with Eric Gibson. Joe has graced stages from A Prairie Home Companion to the Transatlantic Sessions, sharing the spotlight with artists like James Taylor and Jerry Douglas.
Together, Mike and Joe create a rare musical magic that blends tradition, storytelling, and joy. This is not just a concert—it’s an experience.

Original members of the Nashville Bluegrass Band. Joe plays guitar and old time banjo and is an award winning songwriter too. They are BIG NAMES around Nashville but not well known in the northeast. Their show will be stunning.”
