Winners of the Band Contest at the 2013 Thomas Point Bluegrass Festival, The Lonely Heartstring Band is an acoustic quintet based out of Boston, MA. Their music is a combination of old and new styles, melding the sounds of traditional bluegrass with modern songwriting and arranging. The band began with a common love for the music of The Beatles, bringing some of their favorite songs to life while attempting to remain true to the original arrangements.
“The Lonely Heartstrings Band, is very very good, and so much fun to hear. They play traditional bluegrass and the Beatles!..hence their name. They have been taking festivals and concert halls by storm because they sing harmonies that are inspiring. I think they are singing these old Beatle songs better than John and Paul…well, they’re doing it with acoustic instruments and three and four parts harmonies” – Nick Novia, The Firebox
“With The Lonely Heartstring Band, Newton native, Gabe Hirshfeld (banjo) has been unstoppable since his earliest involvement with BBU. Now a senior at Berklee College of Music, he and classmates Louis Fram (bass) of Needham, George Clements (guitar) of Westborough, and west coast natives Matt Witler (mandolin) and Patrick M’Gonigle (fiddle) are exploring the music of The Beatles. You will be impressed with what these fantastic young musicians have achieved. They are not just “bluegrassing up” the tunes, this is what The Beatles would have sounded like if they had been a bluegrass band. After several impressive performances across New England, we are thrilled to bring you this wonderful band.” – Boston Bluegrass Union
