Now that the year is almost over, it’s time to take a look at some of the best new bluegrass music that was released in 2023! This year saw some incredible new releases from newcomers and genre stalwarts alike. Fourteen year-old mandolinist Wyatt Ellis released his first single, “Grassy Cove,” with support from Sierra Hull. Dan Tyminski released his first new full-length bluegrass album in over a decade with God Fearing Heathen. Molly Tuttle and Golden Highway followed up their double-Grammy award-winning record from 2022 with the equally impressive City of Gold. There’s just so much great new bluegrass this year—enjoy this sampler of the best of Bluegrass 2023!
David Chernack is a fiddler, mandolinist, and guitarist from the Hudson Valley. Trained as a classical violist, David found out about bluegrass music in high school and despite his best efforts has been unable to kick the habit in adulthood. He picked up mandolin and guitar in college in Boston, where he studied environmental science and music. While not at his day job or pickin' 'grass, David also enjoys birdwatching and wrenching on cars.
