The weekend of October 2-4 will mark the reopening of the Poughkeepsie Highland Railroad Bridge as Walkway Over the Hudson State Park. When first open in 1888, it was the first span over the Hudson river south of Albany and an engineering wonder of the world. The last train rolled over the bridge 35 years ago in 1974. Soon people will have an opportunity to cross the river on the world's longest pedestrian bridge and New York's newest State Park.
Festivities start on Friday evening and the bridge will open to the public on Saturday October 3. The HVBA and Clearwater team up on Sunday, October 4 to provide entertainment at "Sunday in the Park" at the Bob Shepard Highland Landing Park, a new riverfront park on River Road in Highland. (NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT BLUEGRASS BETWEEN THE BRIDGES, AND NOT IN POUGHKLEEPSIE)
The Clearwater will be docked at the Highland Landing Park from 9am-4pm. There will be entertainment, sponsored by the Hudson Valley Bluegrass Association, and many of our areas local venders selling food. There will also be tours of the boat in honor of the Quadracentenial Celebrations and the "Arm of the Sea" Puppeteers will be performing. Bring a blanket and purchase a wonderful lunch from one of the venders. *Also check out the brand new roof on the Educational Center.
