If you don’t know the Gibson Brothers by now you will be in for a treat. The Gibson Brothers are one of the most respected and exciting bluegrass bands performing today!  Here are some reviews:

"Eric and Leigh Gibson's sweet harmonies fall somewhere between those of Phil and Don Everly, and Charlie and Ira Louvin ... There is little question about the role of the heart in the making of modern bluegrass music and there is no doubt that the Gibsons apply lots of it to the music they so clearly love to make."       Eric Thom, Exclaim!

"Very much the real deal."   Daniel Durchholz, St. Louis Post-Dispatch

"The Gibson Brothers recall a lot of the true, real feelings of country's roots. What truly stands out about their music is that, although they're solidly based in traditional styles, they're also songwriters working with a contemporary lexicon of language and issues. If you think country music is about rhinestones and wretched excess, these guys'll change your mind. This is good music: intense, soulful, technically exciting -- it's damn near perfect. Get out and see these guys."  Chuck Thurman, Coast Weekly

A note to all you fans of fifths and frets ... you know who you are ...

The Gibson Brothers are coming to The James Earl Jones Theater at the Poughkeepsie Day School on April 17th. You probably knew this much already since you're smart enough to be reading this and since this comment is tagged to concert announcement (duh!)

    BUT ...

What you might not know is that Joe Walsh will be with them playing the most wonderful, tasteful, soulful, exciting, awe-inspiring, jaw dropping and just overall cool mandolin you're likely to hear anywhere this year.

Joe is one of those guys you hear and you just instantly know he's got a very special gift. Forget that he was the first guy to graduate Berklee College of Music with mandolin as his principle instrument. Forget that he founded the great Boston based BG band "Joy Kills Sorrow". Forget that Matt Glaser, head of Berklee's strings department and (among many other professional achievements) an interviewee and senior consultant on the Ken Burns documentary Jazz, said "Walsh's mastery of mandolin fundamentals is obvious to people adept at discerning serious musicians from people who make pleasant noises with instruments". Forget all that stuff. Go see him and what you'll remember is that Joe is the personification of how to do everything right on the mandolin. He posesses the three T's of tone, taste and timing in unfair abundance!!

If you miss this opportunity to see him ... well ... you would likely hear about what a great show you'd missed and spiral into a deep depression. The kind of depression that would require massive amounts of serotonin re-uptake inhibitors to combat and even then you might be so negatively impacted by your poor decision making that you might turn to playing the tuba hoping to find solace in the mind numbing loudness of its notes ... but lets not even go there.

Listen ... just do yourself a really big favor and buy your tickets now. Then go see Joe on April 17th. I hear he's playing with two other guys - Brothers actually - who are pretty good themselves. Trust me though - Joe is the show! Now ... Go!!!
